Teens and Fitness

August 27, 2013

My son has always been involved in team sports.  We have always encouraged him not only to enjoy the game , but to always play his best game.  He has played soccer, hockey, football, basketball and rugby and  has excelled in all. He has learned throughout the years is it’s not only his fitness level and his desire to play allowing for success, but his nutrient intake as well.  Nutrition is a key component.  Especially in growing teens. In the last year, he has seen improvement in his performance. He added weight lifting to his many team practices and noticed... View Article

September, a Time to Rebalance

August 26, 2013

I don’t know about you, but towards the end of the summer I feel like I have totally corrupted my health.  Endless summer cocktails, nonstop BBQ feasts, rich desserts masquerading as fresh summer fruits,  and then of course the short little walk for ice cream. I don’t love the terms  ‘detox’ or ‘cleanse’, not only are they overused, but they refer to a more serious approach.  I just want to get back on track! I want to reset my goals and rejuvenate. I’m feeling tired and sluggish now.  My sleep patterns are amiss.  My body is not eliminating properly. And... View Article

I recently received several emails inquiring about one of the services I offer.  As a nutritionist/food enthusiast, I offer grocery shopping tours.  It sounds pretty inane for the experienced foodie, however, for many it can be confusing, demanding or downright tedious.  I help clients prepare meal plans, develop recipes and grocery lists, and take them through the supermarkets and other food store wonders around the city.  I discuss healthier options within each food categories and note what to look for when reading food labels. Who would benefit from this service? University students moving out on their own New couples creating a home together Pregnant,... View Article

Water Pure and Simple

August 12, 2013

The health benefits of drinking water are aplenty. If wellness is your intention, then drinking water is the easiest effort you can make.  Nutritionists recommend the 8×8 rule, that is to drink eight 8 ounce glasses of water throughout the day. I don’t actually count how many glasses of water I drink per day, but I know that on most days, I follow the suggested 8×8. Water for Weight Management Drinking water before a meal makes you feel fuller sooner.  You will be less hungry at meal time and therefore eat less food.  Drinking water will also replace sugar filled juices... Tomato Peach and Bocconcini Salad

August 9, 2013

I love to eat fruits and vegetables in season. Obviously, they are fresh and flavorful, but also easily available and accessible.  As we enter tomato and peach season, I have incorporated both into a delicious and colorful salad.  Feel free to tweak this recipe in any way.  It is a beautiful and vibrant salad that can be eaten as an entrée or a meal.  To transform it into a meal, you can add prosciutto, grilled chicken or fish. Tomato Peach and Bocconcini Salad Serves 4 (can easily be doubled) 4 ripe and juicy peaches, pitted and sliced 4 heirloom tomatoes (or equivalent using a variety of... View Article

Experience Has Taught Me….

August 8, 2013

I have always been a food/nutrition/fitness enthusiast.  Feeling healthy will always be my focus, but feeling good about myself  is always my best motivator.  We all want to look and feel our best. I have actually tried and tested loads of  diets. I have done a 7 day juice fast, several low carb and carb free diets, food combining systems, low fat regimes, paleo plans, and even a 30 day gluten free way of life!!  The most significant thing I have learned is that anyone can lose weight and feel better on ANY diet! It generally follows, that on any ‘diet’, calories are decreased and exercise is increased. ... View Article

Is Your Health in Balance?

August 7, 2013

Hello and  welcome to my new blog at  I am a holistic nutritionist, addictions counsellor and foodophile. I live to eat and I love to cook.  Fortunately for me, I take pleasure in  healthy eating and a balanced lifestyle. My philosophy is the old adage ‘everything in moderation’ … this, for me  is the key to wellness: mentally, physically and spiritually.  I don’t believe in eliminating entire food groups (unless there are intolerances/allergies).  I do, however assume that many people would benefit from proper supplementation, depending on personal living standards.  And let’s not forget, physical fitness is a MUST, it is an essential part of the equation! I... View Article
